All That She Wants

I have been a rolling stone I admit. Not having been very lucky as far immediate supervisors go, I have been easily demotivated at work and have hence switched jobs far too often. Some bosses were insecure, some lazy, some pathological liars and one has been particularly nasty. But luckily I have not been unsuccessful at work. Wherefore art thou maternity clothes?

I hail from a country with an astoundingly high population growth rate. The one thing that leads to a high population growth rate: many women reproducing i.e. pregnant women. One would imagine that, in such an environment, pregnancy would be an average topic of discussion. Or maternal health issues. Or breastfeeding. Or nursing bras. But no. There is no discussion on pregnancy because it is treated like a disease or to use a commonly-used term: ‘condition’ . It’s surprisingly a very hush hush, very taboo topic. Of buns and ovens

Pregnancy is a loaded word. It spells hemorrhoids and heartburn, hope and anticipation, cravings and weight gain, ultrasounds and heartbeats, baby showers and baby names. One thing is common among all: it’s a long, long journey and it’s an uphill task.
